Juror’s Comments – Mary-Ann Jack-Bleach
Creative design and use of colour.  The subtle inclusion of different elements in the painting must have meaning for the artist; however, this painting will be interpreted according to the viewer's own frame of reference.
Exciting piece. Well done.

About the Artist
Annette is a graduate of Fanshawe Fine Art Program and also earned her Bachelor of Fine Art Honours Degree from the University of Windsor.  She is an art teacher at East Elgin Secondary School in Aylmer and Head of the Visual Art Department.  Annette is also a Boathouse Gallery Member at the Art Emporium in Port Stanley.
Annette’s art has taken an extreme transformation over the past few years.  After developing and enhancing her skills in realism, colour, and working from photographs, her art now focuses on the exploration of vibrant imaginary landscapes incorporated with figures, flowers, and fish.

Item 26    Down by the Creek
Watercolour by Carolyne McLeod

This painting is inspired by nature and my personal experience with a friend with Alzheimer’s…no longer able to talk about the past and shared memories.

Carolyne McLeod

Juror’s Comments – Mary-Ann Jack-Bleach
This is a breathtaking watercolour, particularly because of your choice of colours.  The abstract elements within the composition are unique and give it such a natural feel.  Whoever is lucky enough to win this piece will enjoy it every day.  There is so much to see and interpret.  Well done!

About the Artist
Carolyne retired from a 30 year Health Care Administration career and is very happy to have the time to indulge in her lifelong interest in art.  Art classes and workshops in drawing, watercolour, and mixed-media painting have provided an ongoing, “informal” art education.  Carolyne is a native and long-term resident of St. Thomas, she feels the natural beauty of Elgin County provides endless inspiration for her paintings.

The variety and beauty of Nature’s treasures continues to intrigue me!

Item 49    Pioneer Store
Oil by Manizhe Sabet Sarvestany
Retail Price     $490
Reserved Bid $400

I initially came to Canada to spend time with my son and his family, but fell in love with the varied landscapes and people of so many different backgrounds—people you wouldn’t see standing next to each other anywhere else in the world.

Manizhe Sabet Sarvestany

Juror’s Comments – Mary-Ann Jack-Bleach
Dramatic piece.  Caught my eye as soon as I walked into the gallery.  The use of colour, bold brush strokes and leaving some of the background untouched makes the subject “pop”.   Well done!

Manizhe has enjoyed excellent teachers – most internationally acclaimed artists and has studied oil-painting, watercolour, drawing, charcoal, acrylic, and pastel. The sunlight shining through the trees and leaves, and the deep shadows on the field of purple flowers, invokes a feeling of calm and peace
 Jane Thuss

Juror’s Comments – Mary-Ann Jack-Bleach
Magnificent piece.  Your choice of colours is unusual, yet exceptional.  The shadows and contrast in light are amazing.  This painting is in a class of its own!

Item 13    The Family
Acrylic by Sandra England
Retail Price     $500
Reserved Bid $250

I have always been interested in the social interactions in elephant communities especially the care of their young and elderly, and their burial rituals.

Sandra England

Juror’s Comments – Mary-Ann Jack-Bleach
Evocative piece.  Composition does justice to these majestic animals.  Good use of colour.  The contrasting dark and lighter areas create a dramatic atmospheric effect of the elephants suddenly appearing out of their bush isolation.  Well done.

About the Artist
Sandra is primarily self-taught but has had the opportunity of completing many instructional workshops which have influenced her artistic pursuits.   Her work is diverse using watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media with subject matter that varies from representational landscape, figurative work and more abstract mixed media.  She is one of the partners in the Art Emporium in Port Stanley and her work is signed ‘Sam’ a nickname from childhood still used by family and friends.
“My creativity is inspired by the beauty around me, and fueled by the need to express myself in ways that can be shared with others.  I have always been a keen observer of nature, but painting changes the way a person looks at the world”.

Item 58    A New Day      Acrylic Painting by Jane Thuss
Retail Price     $500
Reserved Bid $300

Watching the beautiful, multi-coloured sunrises every morning on her farm inspired the artist to paint “A New Day”.  ”The bright sunlight peeks through the trees and throws long shadows on the new spring grass, giving the promise of a new day.”

Jane Thuss

Juror’s Comments – Mary-Ann Jack-Bleach
Inspirational piece.  The sunlight creates shadows but it also causes the sky and leaves to radiate the most beautiful colours.  I see this piece as similar to the song “Keep on Smiling” because even when times are challenging (shadows), there is always hope.  Well done.  Great Painting.
The juror also shared her thoughts about how appropriate this particular painting was for the Alzheimer Auction with its theme of hope.
