November Featured Artist: Pat Brown

There is always a place in any gallery for traditional watercolour. The trick is to find someone who does it well.  Pat is our someone. She also is extremely proficient in working with oil, making her a painters painter.

November Featured Artist: Deb Dicker

Known for her large heavily textured,  landscape inspired abstracts, but always up for a challenge, Deb has taken a bit of a departure into small painting territory in order to provide us with a piece that will fit our Featured Artist wall.
Well done Deb!

Deb Dicker, At The Beach, 12x12, Acrylic, $125.00

November Featured Artist: Debra Kubu

Debra is a visual art virtuoso.  Having taught art for many years she is adept in many mediums and styles. Her work ranges from tiny gem like paintings to giant fill the room pieces, often in vibrant unexpected colours that will blow your mind. This little piece is a bit more traditional, and soothing to look at, but lovely none the less.
Debra Kubu, Beach Grass, acrylic, 10x12, $175.00

Art Emporium Artists At The Palace Theatre

The Art Emporium is proud to once again have our artists' work displayed at the Palace Theatre in London.
The first production we will be displaying at will be Mame.

book by JEROME LAWRENCE and ROBERT E. LEE
Music and Lyrics by JERRY HERMAN
December 4-14th, 2014
Directed by: JOHN GERRY
This musical revolves around the antics of Mame Dennis, a fun-loving, wealthy eccentric with a flare for life and a razor sharp wit. Her life is suddenly changed when she becomes the guardian of her late brother’s only child, Patrick. Her adventures take us from the speak-easies of the roaring 20’s to the great depression. She is rescued by a wealthy Southern plantation owner, marries and is widowed suddenly, and through it all, manages to keep things under control.

The 123 Show Montages: Best In Show Winner Tom Scanlan

Guest post by Philip Schmidt.
DRUM ROLL & CYMBAL CLASH PLEASE.....
♫ BA-DUM-BUM-CHING ♫
OUR BEST IN SHOW WINNER IN OUR ART EMPORIUM '1, 2, OR 3 SQUARE FOOT SHOW'!
Award-winning OSA artist Cathy Groulx, who adjudicated this, our first-ever juried show.....
And drove down from Woodstock in Oxford County to make it happen.....
Selected a sculpture for her Best In Show honours.
And here's the thing:
'Mr. Best In Show' himself is an award-winning woodcarver, but imaginatively incorporated both wood and copper into his wonder-full 'Ruby-Throated Hummingbird.'
Now listen up, y'all:
The 1, 2 or 3 Square Foot Show runs until November 17th, which means that this is the final weekend to check out the 100+ imaginative paintings, photographs, sketches, glassworks, sculptures and multi-media pieces that were submitted by a good number of very talented artisans.
So "come on down!"
The Art Emporium is currently open from 11AM-5PM, Thursday-Monday, and is located at 177 Main Street in downtown Port Stanley.

The 123 Show Montages: Philip Schmidt

Guest post by Philip Schmidt.
OUR FINAL JUROR'S CHOICE WINNER IN OUR ART EMPORIUM '1, 2, OR 3 SQUARE FOOT SHOW'!
Woodstock-based OSA juror Cathy Groulx demonstrated a profound knowledge of a wide variety of artistic media when she adjudicated our 1, 2 or 3 Square Foot Show.
And photographic art was no exception.
For her second of two Juror's Choice awards, she selected a film photograph by Philip S. Schmidt.
The unique presentation of Philip's image, as conceptualized by Ted McLauchlin of Highlander Studios in Woodstock, caught Cathy's eye right away.
The 1, 2 or 3 Square Foot Show runs until November 17th, so please drop in and check out the 100+ imaginative paintings, photographs, sketches, glassworks, sculptures and multi-media pieces that were submitted by a good number of very talented artisans.

♫ LADIES AND GENTLEMEN ♫
OUR FIRST JUROR'S CHOICE WINNER IN OUR ART EMPORIUM '1, 2, OR 3 SQUARE FOOT SHOW'!
OSA Juror Cathy Groulx, who kindly drove down from Woodstock to adjudicate our show, selected a delightful cross-section of artistic media as her award winners.
Hence her first of two Juror's Choice awards:
A glass artwork by Cheryl Garrett-Jenkins.
Cheryl is known, or should I say renowned, in Port Stanley as the proprietor of Rubyeyes Kraftwerks, and her glass artworks range in theme from sci-fi/fantasy to Celtic projects.
The 1, 2 or 3 Square Foot Show runs until November 16th, so please drop in and check out the 100+ imaginative paintings, photographs, sketches, glassworks, sculptures and multi-media pieces that were submitted by a good number of very talented artisans.

PREEEEE-SENTING:
OUR THIRD AND FINAL HONOURABLE MENTION WINNER IN OUR ART EMPORIUM '1, 2, OR 3 SQUARE FOOT SHOW'!
[Please check out the accompanying montage in full-screen mode for maximum visual impact.]
Now how cool is this?
Both Cathy Groulx (our show's juror) and Rita Milton (our 3rd Honourable Mention winner) hail from Woodstock in Oxford County.
The more we engage in such inter-county connectedness, the less likely we will remain in our own xenophobic artistic spheres.
Our show runs until November 16th, so please drop in and check out the 100+ imaginative paintings, photographs, sketches, glassworks, sculptures and multi-media pieces that were submitted by a good number of very talented artisans.

Wow! Congratulations Lynda!

Belated Congratulations to Philip Schmidt

Cleaning out my inbox, I see I've missed a missive from our Phil. Belated congratulations Philip on  both your retirement, and your solo show!

MY CANADA POST RETIREMENT BEGINS WITH A BANG:
MY VERY OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC ART SHOW!

'Tis true, dear friends.
My beloved wife Jackie has 'tag-teamed' with my illustrious Art Gallery of Lambeth curators Vivian Tserotas and Brenda Morris to stage my very own retirement celebration / photographic art show.
Once I was informed of this way-cool surprise, I pedalled my bicycle around my former letter carrier route for 3 straight days, personally handing out invitations and engaging in unhurried, heartfelt conversations with my hundreds of wonderful former customers.
Meanwhile, Jackie handwrote and sent dozens of postcard invitations featuring the montage profiled here.
Well.
The opening reception proved to be more than anyone had bargained for.
It was nothing short of a 3-ring circus.
Talented Restore the Mountain songwriter/guitarist Ben Brown created a very special ambiance with his unique musical stylings.
Our good friends Hadyn and Susan Jensen worked with Jackie to organize the catering for the entire affair.
My former boss and colleagues from my forklift-driving days at Canada Post joined in the festivities.
And of course, a good number of YOU dear friends drove considerable distances to share in the emotions of the day, to view my art and offer your congratulations.
To say that I was humbled is to understate the case.
But the real shocker was the sheer number of letter carrier customers - many of whom had never darkened the doorway of an art gallery before - who came to see Magic Moments.
I ended up staging an 'artist walkabout', profiling a number of my connected arts collaborations and stand-alone pieces.
Since that fateful Sunday, a good deal MORE people have come to the gallery for their own Magic Moments private tours.
The show ends this weekend.....
But my curators Vivian and Brenda have decided that Magic Moments should go out with a bang, not a whimper.
So they've decided to allow my show to continue to hang throughout the London Doors Open festivities this Saturday and Sunday.
Vivian and Brenda will be offering 4 special Doors Open step-by-step painting classes at the gallery:
'Abstract Fun,' 'Totem Turtle,' 'Butterfly' and 'Elephants.'
Painters Jesse Robertson and Cheryl Jennings, as well as coloured pencil specialist Christine Johnson, will be on hand to demonstrate their artistic expertise.
And guess what else?
I am on the hook for another 'artist walkabout' of my Magic Moments show, on Saturday morning at 11:30 am.
So if y'all missed out on my opening reception walkabout, consider yourselves granted a second opportunity.
The Art Gallery of Lambeth is located at 2454 Main Street in downtown Lambeth.
The gallery is open this week from 1-5 pm on Wednesday and Friday, then 11-4 on Saturday and 12-4 on Sunday to celebrate London Doors Open.
It would be an honour to welcome you to my Magic Moments show.....
And to all the other aforementioned wonderment taking place this weekend at the Art Gallery of Lambeth.

Shirley Mihlik Thompson, Art Emporium November Featured Artist

Shirley is relatively new to the Art Emporium, but she is by no means new to the area art scene.

November Featured Artist: David E Dale

David is an interesting guy, he's done air brush paintings since the 70's, and pottery and photography for almost as long. He loves his garden, travel, and life, not necessarily in that order.

David E. Dale, Newfoundland Zen, Photography, 27x20, $195.00

November Featured Artist: Randy Bloye

Randy Bloye's moniker is 'Man of Many Faces' which is very apt, as his talented carving tools find the intriguing faces of mythical figures in cast off pieces of cotton wood bark and cedar chunks, sent to him from British Columbia.
The whimsy of his figures, and the eccentricity of the house's he creates is sure to bring a smile to your face.
