Ethel Mitrovic's winning ways

This is a guest post by Philip Schmidt:

Preeeee-senting:  The 'Honourable Mention' winner in the Art Gallery of Lambeth's 2014 Summer Sizzler show, lovingly handcrafted by our very own Art Emporium member artist and master sculptor ETHEL MITROVIC.....

Together with accompanying critique by juror extraordinaire Suzette Terry, herself a multiple award-winner, who drove all the way down from Meaford to Lambeth to jury the show!

To fully appreciate the accompanying montage, please check it out in 'full-screen' mode.

The show runs until July 26, so please drop in and check out the wonderfully diverse topflight artworks.  The Art Gallery of Lambeth is located at 2454 Main Street in Lambeth.

This is the second Art Gallery of Lambeth award that Ethel has won in as many shows.  Congratulations, Ethel!  You do the Art Emporium of Port Stanley proud.

Congratulations to Judy Ross

Congratulations go out to Art Emporium artist Judy Ross.
Let us have her tell you  her exciting news in her own words
"I am pleased to say that I have received a copy of the music CD which incorporates my new Chakana painting on the CD itself, as well as on the pamphlet inside.  Title of the CD is Chakana Angelicus and presents the Anglican choral discipline of Chorus Angelicus and Gaudeamus.  In this particular CD, the choirs perform music ranging from pre-Columbian music of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon to works of contemporary Latin American composers.  The choirs are known worldwide and I feel very honoured that my painting was chosen to have been used in this international production."

Congratulations!!! this is quite an achievement Judy.

Anne's beautiful work is characterized by what she calls 'melting colours'.  The Art Emporium is very pleased to be her representative in the Port Stanley area.

Featured Artist for July: Chris Allaway

One our July featured artists, and one of our newest is textile artist Chris Allaway.
Every piece tells a story, and displays Chris's deep connection to nature.
Chris says about her art "My favourite technique by far is what I call cut and paste, whether it is fussy cutting designs from fabric or piecing together small scraps to make scenery I love seeing it all take shape. I hope you enjoy my quilts as much as I do making them.”

Featured Artist: Carole McNeely

Welcome Carole McNeely. The newest artist in our group is from Tillsonburg, she is also one of our featured artists this month.
I'm afraid I don 't know much about Carole yet, so I'll let her softly mystical art speak for her.
Golden Birch, oil, 16x20, $200.00

Melissa Kempf: Featured Artist for July

It always catches me by surprise, when I lift one of Melissa's works. They're so delicate in appearance, it takes the impressive weight to remind me that these are stone.
With Canadian Soapstone becoming a rare item, a Large Work such as this is to be coveted.
Hide and Seek, Soapstone, 8x10x12, $625.00

Rose Klein: Featured Artist

Textile art has evolved into something entirely different from the quilts and embroidery of yesteryear. At one time these 'womanly' arts got very little respect as 'real' art which was a loss to the art world, and the world in general.
Anyone looking at Rose's work should appreciate the artistry, skill, and work that goes into her pieces, certainly the jurying committees at the Woodstock Public Gallery, and the Desmond Juried Exhibition did, as she was selected for both of these notoriously hard to get into shows this year
'The Hat', Textile, 12x14, $225.00
.
Her work was also selected as part of the Arts of Canada exhibit at the Vancouver Olympics, so as they say, she's got 'chops'.

July Featured Artist: Jo Wilkinson

One of our charter members, Jo's beautiful water colours have graced our gallery's walls since our opening day in 2012.  Her featured work this month shows her impressive control of this difficult medium.
On a hot summer day, a glimpse into a cool Autumn woods is just what we need to refresh us, so enjoy this 'Autumn Stroll'.

'Autumn Stroll', Water colour, 18x24, $190.00
